The Eiffel Tower’s Architecture – Computer Class Project

The Eiffel Tower’s Architecture.

When you think of the Eiffel tower you think of a large iron monument however, it is much more than that. It’s the jewel of Paris, a statue that binds the city together, and nothing less than one of the greatest architectural pieces ever built. This rare masterpiece stands at a jaw dropping height of 1,063 feet according to thingstolearn.net.  Not only does it tower over the city but it also is quite wide! It’s about 410 feet and 2 inches wide. The Eiffel tower was only intended to last for 20 years however it’s still here today, that’s a total of 184 years more. This colossal tower is made up of 2.5 million rivets, 15,000 pieces of iron, and 40 tons of paint. The Eiffel tower is a mark of the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. To me the Eiffel Tower represents a beacon of hope, a mark that tells  a story to all who visit, and a symbol of peace to the French.

At the top of the tower there is an antenna. It stretches 317.96 meters upward. It was used for radio transmissions. The first signal was send in the year 1898. The signal was sent to the Pantheon. Because of its success they installed a permanent radio station inside the tower. Today the radio station is still there. The radio station is under one of the four legs. You make think that the radio station is broken and unable to work but you are wrong. The station is still running. It is used for FM broadcasts. The antenna increased the height and saved the tower from being demolished. Believe it or not, the Eiffel Tower was one of the shortest structures in Paris. If this magnificent sculpture was destroyed it would be used as scrap metal. The Eiffel tower’s height varies according to temperature. The metal can expand or shrink depending on the temperature.

The Eiffel Tower was the tallest structure in the world for almost half a century. The  Tower doesn’t have to be taller or wider or even smaller to be cherished in the hearts of people from all over the world. It is a piece that stands out because its structure is so simple yet so complex. There are sparkly rubies, rays of sun, and glitter but nothing can outshine the Eiffel Tower. The Tower is something that will remain in people’s hearts for centuries.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPOUg26EXiU We want you input! Fill out this simple poll below.
